Detail of Tallit by Lois Gaylord
Each meeting of the Seattle Weavers' Guild features a segment called "Hot Off the Loom". During this time members display and explain work they have recently done.
In April, 2019 Lois Gaylord presented a Tallit (Jewish prayer shawl) which she was finishing. "This is a closeup photo of one of my Tallits / Jewish prayer shawls. It has a painted linen warp with a tencel weft. I paint the warp with fiber reactive dyes before putting it on the loom. Very happy to finally finish weaving this warp. I first put it on the loom about 2-1/2 years ago. The first 2 tallit were done in the beginning of 2018. This one came off in late April.
The structure is a point twill threading with a combination of twill and tabby weft picks. The first time I wove this structure I was amazed when I pulled it out of the wash. There were little "Stars of David" that showed up. They are most apparent in the upper left of the photo."
