November/December 2023: Halvdrall

Woven by Skye LaChute

I made a set of Halvdrall placemats for a Christmas gift last year. Our friends like a more monochromatic aesthetic in their home, so I chose shades of grey and black. This sample was woven with the same tie-up as the referenced pattern, but I changed the treadling counts slightly, which is reflected in the drawdown.

This was a pretty simple overshot sequence with tabby picks between pattern picks. It’s fun to play with different treadling sequences to see what kind of patterns evolve.

Bio:

Skye LaChute is a retired Naturopathic doctor who caught the weaving bug during the 2020 lockdown. She rapidly pushed the limits on a rigid heddle loom and progressed to 4 and 8 shafts. She’s a slow artist, enjoying all sorts of weaving on all kinds and sizes of looms, essentially just enjoying the process.
